Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of developmental psychology is an appreciable, yet nonmandatory, prerequisite.
Learning outcomes
This course aims to provide students with [1] principles in developmental psychobiology, integrating notions and processes that pertain to infant research, psychoneuroendocrinology, applied behavioral genetics, and epigenetics; and [2] insights into the implications of these concepts and processes for clinical practice and interventions.
Course contents
The course is organized into 4 sections. Section 1 (principles) introduces basic principles of dynamic systems and draws connections with a global view of human development from a neuroscientific and psychobiological perspective. Section 2 (processes) presents specific psychobiological domains (e.g., neuroendocrine system, cardiorespiratory system, behavioral genetics, behavioral epigenetics, etc.). Section 3 (contexts) reports on specific applications of these domains to the study of developmental trajectories in typical and at-risk human conditions. Section 4 (implications) highlights the potential implications of developmental psychobiology for clinical practice.
Teaching methods
Lectures and interactive discussions on scientific papers.
Reccomended or required readings
Suggested scientific papers will be signaled during the course.
Assessment methods
The evaluation method is oral exam. The content includes both slides and suggested bibliography.
