Prerequisites
No special requirements are mandatory. However, since Organization Theory and Design has interdisciplinary traits, it is useful to harness the knowledge and skills acquired in the business economy, in the legal and economic areas of the first and second year of 3 years undergraduate degree courses, as well as within the characterizing course "ECONOMIA E GESTIONE DELLE IMPRESE".

* ‘KNOWING AND DEVELOPING ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONAL WELLNESS’ - 3 ECTS (only for students selected by the University): NO SPECIAL PREREQUISITES ARE REQUIRED.
Learning outcomes
The Course provides basic organizational knowledge and models necessary to understand the complexity of the organizational phenomenon in multiple contexts (e.g. small, medium and big firms in different industries, in public and/or private sector, etc.) as well as the development of practical skills of designing with a critical spirit and autonomy of judgment (macro and micro forms and mechanisms for co-ordination of work and to interpret and / or influence human behavior within firms - Dublin descriptors 1,2 & 3). The Course aims also at an easier insertion of students into the labour market by developing both sensitivity and basic organizational "grammar" to enhance the ability to communicate and learn (Dublin descriptors 4 & 5). These objectives are pursued with a balance between theory, practice and experiences extrapolated from real cases.

*’KNOWING AND DEVELOPING COMPETENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONAL WELLBEING’ (3 ECTS) provides some basic knowledge about organizational behavior (OB). Competencies and organizational well-being are interpreted and proposed as opportunities for individual and organizational development. The objectives of the module are: 1) To understand the complexity and breadth of the issues related to OB to develop greater awareness and a critical (and self-critical) spirit to interpret and / or influence their own and others' actions; 2) To join a company in an easier way in multiple organizational contexts.
Course contents
1) Organizational behaviour of individuals and groups with an introduction to the following topics: attitudes, job satisfaction, emotions and moods, emotional intelligence, personality, values, competencies, motivation and involvement of people, leadership, power and organisational culture, organisational well-being, organisational change and management of stress.

2) Contextual dimensions (including the environment) in their multiple components.

3) Organizational relationships, both internal and external, and transactions, including their governance structures.

4) Organizational forms (craft forms and peer groups, functional, divisional, geographical, matrix, horizontal, network, adhocracy, hybrid, etc.) and operating systems.

5) Organizational design at micro level (job design and redesign, the role of professionals and knowledge workers, recent trends, etc.).

*’KNOWING AND DEVELOPING COMPETENCIES AND ORGANIZATIONAL WELLBEING’ (3 ECTS) is focused on topics indicated above (point 1)
Teaching methods
Lectures, videos, mini case-studies, business testimonials (managers, entrepreneurs, etc.), role playing or workgroups, project works and/or seminars, to support both frontal and interactive didactics, with problem analysis and problem-solving elements.

Assessment methods
Written exam of 1h 15m with 5 open questions of which 3 with a maximum score of 6 points, one with a maximum score of 10 points and a final question with a maximum score of 5 points (tot. 33 points corresponding to honours). The questions are designed to assess both knowledge and understanding of organisational complexity (concepts, models, "organisational grammar", etc.) and the practical ability to design organisational forms and mechanisms through an exercise simulating a realistic organisational problem of medium complexity to be solved through the (re)design and argumentation of further hypotheses and choices made independently by the student. The problem presented, in fact, does not envisage a single deterministic solution. The resolution of the "organisational problem" presented weighs 10 points out of a total of 33.
The use of support material is normally permitted during the test.
In consultation with the lecture room, possible in-progress learning tests connected with exercises, project works and seminars may be planned. In the case of intermediate tests, the final mark is the sum of all marks.
The lecturer reserves the right to make the oral test compulsory in exceptional cases, including individual ones (for misconduct, suspected cases of copying/plagiarism, etc.). The results of any intermediate tests will be announced via the "KIRO" e-learning platform; the results of the final test will be published in the students' reserved area. Acceptance or rejection of the grade must take place in accordance with the current University didactic regulations.

*"KNOWING AND DEVELOPING SKILLS AND ORGANISATIONAL WELL-BEING" (3 CFU)

In particular, for lessons 1 to 12 (inclusive), i.e. those marked with * in the agenda of the Business Organisation teaching, the assessment of learning involves a written test on the topics covered in the teaching (total duration approx. 60 minutes - the examination dates correspond to those of the Business Organisation teaching) wich correspond to those of the Business Organisation teaching) with: "open" questions with short answers on the topics covered in the lectures by the lecturer: 7 questions, 0-4 points each, max 28 points; a section of "closed" questions (quizzes) on the topics covered in the lectures (also from any witnesses) 12 multiple-choice questions (of which only one is correct), 0.5 points each, no penalty for wrong answers (you simply get 0 points); max 5 points total; for preparation it is suggested to use the slides and material made available by the witnesses and uploaded on the KIRO platform of the Business Organisation teaching and the suggested links to further material (available in the slides). Maximum total points (33 points) corresponding to honours.
