Prerequisites
It is recommended to have basic theoretical knowledge of clinical psychology and psychopathology.
Moreover, a good English proficiency is strongly recommended for understanding the teaching material (scientific articles).
Learning outcomes
The purpose of the course will be to allow the acquisition of an advanced knowledge of the applied contents of clinical psychology with a focus on mental disorders.
Specific training objectives are as follows:
1. Knowledge of the different types of psychosocial interventions aimed at people with severe mental disorders
2. The conceptualization of the clinical case with the setting up of a diagnostic process and the identification of areas of learning in the clinical interview in order to set up a plan of psychological intervention;
3. The ability to perform a differential analysis involving mood disorders
Course contents
The course will have a total duration of 54 hours (CFU 9) and 36 hours (CFU 6). The program common to the two Courses will include:
- The biopsychosocial model and role of social determinants and severe mental disorders;
- Mood disorders, with a focus on depression and bipolar disorder from a diagnostic and psychoeducational perspective:
- Anxiety symptomatology: diagnostic aspects and psychopathological mechanisms.
The CFU 9 course program will additionally include the following topics:
- Depressive symptomatology in the elderly: clinical features and peculiarities;
- Auditory hallucinations in psychosis: analysis and management of "voices".
Teaching methods
The course is organized in face-to-face lectures, conducted through slide presentations. In addition to covering theoretical aspects, clinical cases (transcripts of clinical interviews, videos, documentaries, interviews) will also be presented with the aim of facilitating the link between theory and practice and stimulating classroom discussion.
The training activities are completed by some interventions given by expert users (experts in peer support) who will focus on the professional role of the ESP (expert in peer support). The speakers will explore personal issues related to the personal recovery path of the speakers.

- Slides, handouts and articles in English (in greater numbers than the 6-credit course) will be provided in the course of lectures and downloadable on the Kiro platform.
Therefore, the 9 CFU course includes more and additional articles and slides compared to the 6-credit course.
Assessment methods
The exam will take place in written form and will consist of 3 open questions (score 0-6) and the analysis of a clinical case (score 0-12). The scoring criteria are related to the appropriateness and relevance of the contents, technical language, integration of the exam material (articles, textbooks, slides), ability to articulate the clinical hypotheses, adapt them to the context and support them with personal and supported arguments based on scientific evidence.
