Prerequisites
Knowledge of the experimental methodology and of the scientific perspective of general psychology. It is required a good knowledge of two basic cognitive processes: attention and memory.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student must know and understand the main features of all the cognitive and motivational processes involved in learning, and their complex interactions. The student must know which cognitive and motivational mechanisms foster effective scholastic learning, e must know how to recognize which cognitive and/or motivational deficits can account for learning problems (outside of the clinical/pathological domains).
Course contents
The course deals with all types of learning, starting with experiential learning and anding with declarative/scholastic learning. In order to do so, the course assumes that students have already acquired knowledge of attentional and memory processes, and will deal in detail with:
- associative and causal experiential learning
- conceptual learning, understanding, problem solving
- the motivation to learn

- Further materials and excercises for improving the understanding of some of the more challenging topics will be uploaded to the Kiro platform
Reccomended or required readings
The textbooks and programme are the same for students attending and non-attending the lectures

Cherubini, P., Reverberi, C., Bricolo, E. (2021). Psicologia generale (nuova edizione). Milano: Raffaello Cortina.

Chapter 6: Apprendimento associativo e causale. With the exception of section 6.3.4, which is in programme, all sections marked as "advanced" are optional.

Chapter 7: Sistema concettuale e controllo di ipotesi. The advanced sections 7.4.3 and 7.6.2 (and all of its subsections) are in programme. Section 7.5.2 e all remaining advanced sections are optional.

Chapter 8: Problem Solving. Sections 8.3, 8.3.1,8.3.2 are optional. The online subchapter 8+ "la deduzione" is in programme, except for sections , 8+.3.4 e 8+3.8.

Chapter 12: La motivazione. the sections in programme are: introduction, and sections 12.1.2, 12.1.2.2, 12.1.3, 12.2, 12.2.1 (including all subsections), 12.2.3, 12.2.4 (including all subsections), 12.4 (cincluding all subsections). The online material "Differenze culturali in aspettativa-valore nel contesto scolastico" is in programme.

Every other online material is optional.
Assessment methods
Written with multiple choice and open questions. Grades ranging from "not pass" to 30. Further details will be published on the Kiro website of the course.
Further information
As an incentive to study WHILE you follow the course, students of the academic year 2023-24 and erasmus students who will sit the exam in the winter session (January or February 2024) and will manage to get a grade >20, will receive an automatic +1 point bonus.
