Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of general psychology and cognitive psychology is required. In particular, knowledge of the following mental processes is required: memory, attention and language.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student should:
- know the theories on cognitive and socio-cognitive aging;
- know the basic research approaches in the field of aging and the main techniques of data analysis;
- know how to administer the main assessment tools;
- know the intervention programs both for the cognitively healthy older adults and for those suffering from cognitive impairment
Course contents
The course includes the following topics:
- Theoretical perspectives on aging
- Research approaches
- Cognitive and psychological changes in normal aging;
· Cognitive and psychological changes in pathological aging
· Assessment tools (MMSE, MODA, Attention test, processing speed, working memory, vocabulary and verbal fluency, Pain rating scales)
· Interventions (Cognitive and socio-cognitive stimulation interventions; person-centered approach, Gentle Care)
Teaching methods
The course includes:
- lectures;
- practical exercises on the use of tests and interventions;
- individual work of administration of instruments to older adults;
- statistical analysis of the data collected during the course

Assessment methods
The oral exam includes the assessment of knowledge related to theoretical constructs, measures and interventions on healthy and pathological aging. The student will also present, through slides, he results of the research conducted during the course
