Prerequisites
Understanding the topics covered in the Oncology module requires the student to have knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, general biology / pathology. They must also possess the fundamentals of internal medicine and general concepts of epidemiology, pharmacology and health organization.
Learning outcomes
The teaching of oncology aims to provide the nursing student with the essential notions to understand:
- the impact of this disease on the population and on the health system,
- the basic notions of the diagnostic and therapeutic workup,
- the basic principles of antineoplastic treatments and their side effects,
- the importance of multidisciplinarity in Oncology, also from the point of view of a hospital-territory path, and the concept of simultaneous care.
Course contents
- Epidemiology, risk factors and primary and secondary prevention; natural history of cancer,
- Diagnostic and terapeutic approach to the cancer patient and main acute and late side effects in medical treatments,
- multidisciplinary approach to the cancer patient,
- hospital-territory network concept,
