Prerequisites
Basic concepts of descriptive and inferential statistics
Learning outcomes
The content of an article or a study published in a scientific journal is not always easy to understand and the validity of the findings and conclusions not easy to determine . The course aims to provide the basic elements for the critical reading of a scientific paper, in reference to statistical data analysis and interpretation of results.
Course contents
At the end of the course students will have learned the skills necessary to
critically interpret the type of study design and the statistical analysis of a study, to read and interpret charts, graphs and results of the statistical methods used.
Teaching methods
Lectures and practical exercises about reading articles published in scientific literature in the field of nursing and midwives sciences.

Assessment methods
Written exam with open questions about a study published in the scientific literature (which will be distributed to the student). The student must demonstrate that he/she is able to critically understand the study , particularly as concerns the study design, the kind of statistical analysis and the interpretation of the results to correctly communicate the evidence from the results obtained.
