Prerequisites
Assumed knowledge to better understand the content of the course include fundamental cell biology, biochemistry, human physiology, genetic and general pathology.
Specific entry requirements include:
- Knowledge of cell biology, particularly of cellular differentiation and tissue/organ regeneration.
- Basic knowledge of main biochemical, molecular biology techniques and their usefulness for diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
Learning outcomes
Advanced therapy medicinal products are medicines that have opened up a new era in medicine and offer groundbreaking new opportunities for the treatment of incurable diseases. The main goal of this course is to describe emerging technologies in this field, along with issues. In addition, the biological effects, regulatory status and safety aspects of these therapies will be provided.
Course contents
- Advanced Cell Therapy: definitions and regulatory
- Separation technologies for cell bioprocessing
- Biobanking: issues and strategies
- Decellularized organs
- Use of embryonic, adult, iPSc and mesenchymal stem cells
- In vitro production of blood cells
- Regenerative medicine: biomaterials
Teaching methods
The course consists of oral lectures. It is recommended to attend 75% of the course. Professor is available for additional explanation and clarification on demand.
Reccomended or required readings
