Prerequisites
Appropriate skills are required in the processes of comprehension, including text comprehension, communication, metacommunicative and non-verbal skills, reflection skills, reasoning and problem solving skills, including strategic processes.
Learning outcomes
The nurses who work in the health care units must to be able to work with hight professionality in increasingly diversified areas. It is therefore necessary to structure training courses that offer those who undertake them, starting from basic preparation, the acquisition of skills that are, at the same time, sufficiently broad to allow the inclusion of a range of operational sectors and specific enough to identify a particular scope of application.
The proposed training course help nurses to effectively manage communication, relationships and communicative interaction in professional interventions aimed at prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support activities aimed at individuals and families, taking into account the different operational contexts and patient types.
It will also aim to expand the knowledge and skills to interact, understand and communicate effectively with colleagues and other professionals.
Course contents
Course contents:
• Understanding of communication mechanisms, verbal and non-verbal
• Interaction and communicative intention: factors that facilitate or hinder communication in normality and in illness.
• Assertive communication.
• The defense mechanisms, stress, emotions. Functional and dysfunctional coping skills.
• Understanding of relational dynamics, defensive reactions and adaptation to uncomfortable situations.
• Identification of reactions to the disease, treatments, institutionalization: identification and use of appropriate communication skills with the family and significant persons of the client;
• Identification of the consequences of stress in professional relationships with clients and other health professionals.
Teaching methods
The course includes lectures with interaction between teacher and students. Some simulations will be presented, starting also from the students' concrete experiences, carried out during the internship activities. Lectures, case simulations, reflections and applications of the contents acquired during the course

Assessment methods
Written exam, consisting of: 10 true false questions, one point for each correct answer. Two open questions: 5 points max for each. Case discussion: max 10 points
