Prerequisites

Learning outcomes

To provide knowledge of the structural aspects of compounds of biological relevance aimed at understanding the biochemical processes.

Course contents

Monosaccharides: stereoisomers and stereochemistry.
Reactions of carbohydrates and glycosidic bond. Disaccharides and polysaccharides. Properties of lipids. Nomenclature and properties of fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids. Classification and structure of alpha-amino acids,
reactions and peptide bond. Nucleotides: chemical properties and biological roles. Nucleic acids.
