Prerequisites
Basic knowledge on the structure and function of the biological macromolecules in procariotic and eukariotic cells is required. Basic knowledge in biology, chemistry and physics is also required.
Learning outcomes
This part of the course aims at highlighting the peculiarities of plant organisms and cells, plant tissue systems basic knowledge as well as some fundamental features as the totipotency of the plant cell and photosynthesis.
Course contents
Plant Cell Biology Module.
Autotrophy and heterotrophy.
Peculiarity of plants and mode of life. Plant cell peculiarity (cell wall, vacuole, plastids).
Plant tissue systems: dermal, vascular and ground.
Chloroplast and photosynthesis: light absorption and its transformation chemical energy.
CO2 assimilation: Calvin cycle, photorespiration. An introduction to C4 and CAM plants. In vitro culture of plant cells: an introduction.
Cellular totipotency in plants. Plant in vitro culture.
