Course contents
This course is split into two sequential sections

Information, culture, perspective, knowledge. The case of cancel culture.

The relationship between history and memory (and oblivion). The relationship between memory and places. The relationship between see and know. The relationship between knowledge and power.

These four steps provide an opportunity, concerning the construction of culture in the community through public discourse: to walk through the phenomenon of cancel culture as a case study, in order to analyze not merely its most resounding manifestations as much as its conditions of possibility.

Cancel culture aims at an interdiction of thought, through a modification of the aesthetic landscape, which attempts to alter the memory, history, perspective and knowledge of a community. In a nutshell: its identity.

Cancel culture is a (geo)political act that can only flourish in a context of hyper-information. But is the notion of information a frame in itself sufficient to understand this contemporary model of culture? Or perhaps we need other categories of analysis to understand it?

The first part of the course will focus on the philosophical, semiotic and social foundations that make possible phenomena of attempting cultural modification, such as cancel culture, starting with the correct definitions of often misunderstood terms.
