Course contents
The Course aims to inform students on a variety of problems and procedures related to the Dental Laboratory. The aim is to know what is done, within its limits and possibilities, but not the 'know how to do', which is a duty of a specific competence and different than the Dentist's one. The discussed topics, and those students have to demonstrate to have acquire the fundamental concepts, both technical and way of implementing, are the following: the role of Dental Technician: regulation and professional training. The dental Lab: properties and regulation. Directive EU 93/42 - Leg. Decree 46/97 - and others . What is realized in Dental Lab.: custom made medical devices and aids to the dental practice etc.. Restorative systems: fixed prosthetics and removable prosthetics and combined prosthetics. Impressions trays and taking impressions. Disinfection and processing of the impressions. Models: removable stumps, model tray, boxes. Colors' records and shade guides. Interocclusal relations' records. Articulators and static and dynamic devices for the patient's recording. Preparation of models in fixed, removable and combined prosthetics. Duplicating systems of models. Set up and diagnostic waxing. Custom made impression trays. Dental prosthetic devices and materials for their realization. How to work on materials: through casting, through mechanical process, combined processes, new technologies. Lost wax casting technique. Metallic and not-metallic materials. Placing in cylinder. Melting and casting: technologies and machines. Pickling. Sandblasting. Finishing. Milling. Fixed prosthetics: preparation of abutments, hardening agents, spacer devices, sealer. Waxing and shaping for further processing. Devices realized through using alloys: production techniques. Metal frameworks. Devices realized exclusively with resinous materials: production techniques. Devices realized exclusively with ceramic materials: production techniques through casting, mechanical processing, combined processes. Frameworks and mesostructures. Esthetic facings: esthetic resinous facings, esthetic ceramic facings. Ceramization art.
Removable prosthetics in general: based-plate prosthetic devices. Based- plate and prosthetic teeth. Placing in flask. Using resin-based products. Polishing and buffing. Total removable prosthetics: assembly of teeth. Waxing. Partial removable prosthetics: matching of denture to oral cavity situation and reinforcement frames for based- plates. Metal structures and hooks. Metal- reinforced removable prosthesis: design planning and preparation of the model. Models in refractory materials. Combined prostheses: devices for interconnection. Informations about orthodontic devices, Implantological devices; locking taper technics, ect.
