Knowledge of the basic statistic and probability concepts
Learning outcomes
Knowledge of all the main methods related to analysis, simulation, and verification of experimental data used in the scientific domain
Course contents
Multivariate probability theory and functions of random variables. Basic statistics (definition of confidence interval and estimation of sample parameters). Detailed discussion of the Monte Carlo method, with a description of both its basic principles and some significant applications. Maximum likelihood principle applied to parameter estimation and hypothesis testing. Least squares method and its application to concrete cases of best fit
