Prerequisites
The student must be familiar with the main concepts treated in the 1st-semester Mathematics course, with focus on vector calculations and limits, derivatives and integrals of one-variable functions
Learning outcomes
To provide the student a basic education in the field of classical physics with elements of modern physics and some applications of biophysics, useful in the learning of other disciplines and in the comprehension of the natural events under analysis. The student will acquire the capability of describing these phenomena with the most proper terminology and mathematical tools.
Course contents
Physical quantities and units, vectors, motion of objects in one and two dimensions, momentum and its conservation, Newton laws, universal law of gravitation, work, energy and power, circular motion, oscillating motion, waves, elements of fluid static e dynamics, electric force and electric field, electric potential, electric capacity, electric current, continuous and alternating current circuits, magnetic field, Lorentz force, magnetic induction, electromagnetic waves, elements of thermology and thermodynamics, elements of sound, geometrical and wave optics, elements of ionizing radiation physics and their biological effects.
Teaching methods
Practical Experiences
A tutorial project for the guided resolution of simple physical problems and the performance of some laboratory experiments, with the related elaboration of the measured data are foreseen.
Reccomended or required readings

Assessment methods
Written exam consisting of 3 parts: 1) quiz True/False on the main physical quantities and laws; 2) two-three problems similar to those solved during the classes; 3) two/three "open questions" on the main considered topics. The grade got in the written exam also takes into account the student reports on the practical experiments performed in the lab. ON request, the written exam can be also followed by an oral one, with the aim of improving the grade.
Further information
In addition to provide the students with the bases of mechanics, electromagnetism and optics, the goal of this course consists of outlining the main biomedical applications
