Prerequisites
Knowledge of main topics on Mathematical Analysis and Physics.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is for the student to acquire the basic knowledge of thermodynamics, and then to be able to apply such knowledge in the design of buildings and its mechanical systems.
Course contents
The thermohygrometric well-being, heat transmission, transmittance / thermal bridges, the transformation of humid air,
the psychrometric diagram, thermal calculation of a building, energy modeling of a building, examples of systems based on the intended use, types of systems, generators and HVAC systems, heat pumps and the refrigeration cycle, sizing generators and HVAC systems, controlled mechanical ventilation, AHU sizing.
Mechanical system design: distribution piping and circulation pumps; Water treatment;
Sizing of water supply network;
Mechanical system regulation.
Fundamentals of lighting technology.
Fundamentals of Acoustics; Mep - the new paradigm in building design.
Course project: design of a HVAC system for a given building.
Teaching methods
Theory lectures, together with hands-on practical sessions to support the development of the course project.
Reccomended or required readings
- Termodinamica e trasmissione del calore CENGEL YUNUS A. - McGraw-Hill

- Elementi di Fisica Tecnica per l’ingegneria Michael J. Moran et al. McGraw-Hill

- Trasmissione del Calore. Bonacina A., Cavallini A. , Mattarolo L., CLEUP Padova

- Rossi Nicola: Manuale del Termotecnico- Hoepli editore
Assessment methods
During the semester, a design project will be carried out in groups of 2/3 students.
The project is mandatory and part of the final evaluation,
It must be completed and presented by all group members on the final lecture of the course and the corresponding project report must be submitted at least 3 days before the date of the oral exam.
The final evaluation will be based on the project and the oral exam.
