Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of algebra and mathematics.
Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with the basic tools of statistical analysis and probability theory.
Course contents
The program consists of three distinctive elements:
- Descriptive statistics: objectives, review of sources, data collection, analysis and representation of data.
-Probability: random experiment, results, events.
Frequentist interpretation and axiomatic definition and first calculation rules. Probability rules, conditional probabilities, statistical independence and Bayes' theorem.
- Statistical inference: introduction to the notion of statistical inference (population, sample, statistics and parameters), simple random sampling and sample distributions. Distribution of the sample mean and its characteristics, acceptance intervals, point and interval estimation, parametric hypothesis testing.
Teaching methods
Three weekly lessons of three hours each. Lectures, 2 theoretical and 1 practical on Excel. 2 hours of weekly tutoring on problems related to the lessons held in the week.

Assessment methods
The exam can be carried out by all students and consists of three parts:
1) An ongoing test to be performed on your PC regarding Excel.
2) A general written cross test.
3) Oral exam.
