Course contents
The course introduces the student to relevant medical English vocabulary, usage and functional language as well as elements of style and register found in medical texts. The course covers the main stages of medical communication and students will master basic and specialist biomedical terminology in relation to specific thematic areas, namely: Anatomy and the Human Body (Unit 1, The Medical Alphabet); Acronyms and Abbreviations(Unit 1, The Medical Alphabet); Blood and Cardiology (Units 2 and 3, The Medical Alphabet); Diabetes; Endocrinology; Forensics (Units 4, 5, 6, The Medical Alphabet).
Teaching methods
1. Frontal lessons, interactive, in class and/or using ZOOM.
2. On-line lessons using KIRO and GOOGLE CLASSROOM.
3. Assignments (self-learning)
4. Project work (individual or group work).

The frontal lessons (either in class or using ZOOM) are a mixture of lecture and discussion and are taught in English by native English speakers. Online resources will be used to enhance instruction and students are expected to carry out some learning tasks autonomously outside of class time as part of their self-study programme. Details of the latter will be given at the beginning of the course.

Please Note: lesson attendance and the completion of all assignments are of the utmost importance. A minimum of 75% attendance is required.
