The aim is to give students basic knowledge of the Italian and EU legal systems with focus on topics linked to the biotech sector such as the protection of Intellectual property, the regulation of biotechnology and the ethical questions related to the same. At the end of the course the student will be able to understand the rules that govern the Italian and the EU legal systems and to understand their application to the biotechnology sector.
Introduction to Italian and EU law; the Italian and EU legal systems; institutions; legislation; justice; competences; fundamental rights; Intellectual property rights; biotechnology patent; antitrust rules; EU directives on confined use and commercialization of genetically modified organisms; ethical questions; case law.
