Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is the teaching of the applications of the NMR
technique for the characterization of molecules of biotechnological
interest, starting from the study on small organic molecules up to the
analysis of proteins
Course contents
The NMR module deals with the basic principles of the nuclear magnetic
resonance. After a brief reference to the physical aspects of technique,
the origin of signals in the spectrum and their use for the structure
determination of low molecular weight molecules, in particular those of
biochemical interest, will be shown. The multidimensional techniques will
be briefly treated, showing their applications. The last part of the module
will show the use of NMR for the determination of protein structures in
solution
Teaching methods
The course includes (optional) practical exercises on an instrument
Reccomended or required readings
Lecture notes in PDF format
Assessment methods
The course requires passing a written examination on spectra interpretation, simulation and on the theory
