Prerequisites

The student is required to have knowledge of general chemistry and organic chemistry at the level of basic courses and of physics at the level of high school programs.
Learning outcomes

Course seeks to provide a basic understanding of the main types of techniques used in mass spectrometry MS and nuclear magnetic resonance NMR of biomolecules, as well as a basic familiarity with interpreting their data. At the end of the course it is expected that the student will be able to understand the various spectroscopic techniques (MS and NMR) used on molecules of biological interest and to be able to evaluate their application.

Teaching methods

Lectures. During the lessons, spectroscopic data will be projected in the classroom and analyzed and discussed by the teacher. The teachers of the modules are available for clarification on the topics covered in class.
Reccomended or required readings

Assessment methods

The course requires the passing of two written tests, one per module, with open questions on theory, techniques of mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance as well as interpretation of the respective spectra. The grade corresponds to the average of the votes (out of thirty) acquired in the tests of the two modules
