tutorato lessons.
Learning outcomes
Students will be trained in order to implement their written and oral comprehension. At the end of the course they are expected to be able to apply the acquired skills in completing the tasks in the oral English test.
Course contents
The program consists in a selection of scientific texts dealing with the main subjects of the curriculum.
The chosen texts are analyzed in order to make students learn specialist jargon, identify the main features of the English language along with the rhetorical functions in Scientific Study.
Teaching methods
The course consists of lessons with the professor and oral practice with the mother tongue language assistant. The teacher reads, translates and analyzes texts from the lexical, grammatical and syntactic points of view. The language assistant helps students practice their speaking skills working on the already analyzed texts.
Reccomended or required readings
The chosen texts are contained in the coursebook: G.Bendelli, English from science, (MondadoriUniversità). The volume is an English language text featuring topics chosen from the general science university curriculum. It aims at supplying the academically oriented ESP readers with an adequate and varied selection of texts in order to help them develop the skills necessary for effective participation in any university science course.
Assessment methods
Oral exam
The final oral exam consists in reading and translating passages drawn from the analyzed texts and in answering questions about those texts; with exam marks out of 30.
