Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of inorganic chemistry, technical physics, fluid machines.
Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to offer a complete theoretical / practical overview to enable students to manage energy issues in small / medium / big industrial organizations. Following matters are treated: methods for assessing energy consumptions, cost-benefit analyses, energy saving measures, energy audits, professional figures in the field of rational energy use, fund raising, energy management systems.
Course contents
Perspectives and limits of energy efficiency.
Cost-benefit analysis. Discounted cash flows and Net Present Value. Economic indicators. Optimization problems. Sensitivity analysis. Montecarlo method.
Energy diagnosis in industrial contexts. The principles of efficiency. Diagnostic activity: responsibilities, activities and methods. Measurements of energy parameters. Forms to fill in and drafting of the final report.
Heating and refrigeration in industry. Heat pumps. NZEB buildings.
Power factor correction. Transformers. Improper uses of electricity.
Electric drives. Speed drivers. Compressed air production and distribution system.
Pumps management. Electrical distribution. Management of electric loads.
Lighting system. Cogeneration. SEU systems.
Thermal insulation. Combustion management. Heat recovery.
Consultant activities in energy efficiency. Energy managers, experts in Energy Management, Energy Auditors, Escos. Energy management systems. The ISO 50001 standard.
Incentives for energy saving. White certificates. Tax deductions. Thermal account. Regional / MiSE contributions for diagnosis and management systems.
Contracts for energy supplies. Energy Performance Contracts (EPC).
