Prerequisites
Preferred competences coming from courses of electrotechnics, technical physics and machines.
Learning outcomes
To provide to the students the elements required for choosing and managing the instrumentation in industrial processes and the results of the performed measurements. Provide to the students competences on the sensors used in industrial processes.
Course contents
General concepts on industrial measurements and their execution; description if the most common measurement instruments and sensors: basic operating principle, implementation features and tips for the correct installation; operative aspects for managing the measurement process and the exploitation of the collected results.

Teaching methods
Lectures in class (45 hours) where theory, techniques and practice inherent to thermal and mechanical measurements are illustrated, with particular emphasis to the industrial environment. 4 hours among the lectures in class will be dedicaded to theory and application about digital systems for data acquisition with particular care to Labview environment (NI)

Assessment methods
The written exam is mandatory and it is based on questions with multiple answers. The written exam is sufficient with a mark equal or higher than 16/30. The oral exam is not mandatory with a written exam mark equal or higher than 18/30. The oral exam is anyway necessary to validate a module final mark of 25/30 or higher. The oral exam consists of questions regarding the explanation of sensors for thermal and mechanical measurements mainly employed in the industrial processes environment. The student may provide a (not mandatory) report about digital acquisition data systems for measurements (Labview). The report will add from 0 to 2 to the final mark.
