Prerequisites
No particular prerequisites are required, knowledge of Italian history from the end of the eighteenth
century to the endwhole of the twentieth century will be is expected.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student must know the structure of the archives and recognize the
operations of each phase of the archive's life.
Course contents
The course deals with the basic topics of the archive knowledge, with reference to
theoretical principles, legal aspects and management elements. The archive is observed in its diversified
images, including formation, structuring, deposit phase
and the final one, when the concept of permanent conservation sets the archival material in an
innovative context with reference to the precedent phases.
Teaching methods
Lectures. The lectures will be accompanied by one or more visits to the archives in order to go beyond the
theoretical knowledge of the concepts exposed during classroom lessons.

Assessment methods
Oral exam. For attending students, the evaluation of the exam will focus on the knowledge of the topics
covered in class and on the referenced bibliography. The evaluation will take into account the
personal contribution and insights voluntarily performed by each students during the
course. For non-attending students, evaluation will be reference to the
bibliography.
