Prerequisites
Good knowledge of Italian language. Basic knowledges related to the cultural history of the classical, late-ancient and medieval western civilization
Learning outcomes
Introduction to the knowledge and the main topics of the Medieval Greek literature, (or Byzantine literature)
Course contents
Main characters and general outline of the history of Byzantine Literature (4th-15th Century AD.
Procopius’ “Anekdota” between litarary fiction and political history.
Teaching methods
Lectures. Literary sources in Italian translation will be read and commented during the lessons; specific topics will be treated in depth

Assessment methods
Oral examinations. Students will be asked to discuss at least one of the main topics related to Byzantine culture and literature and one of the sources read and commented during the lessons
Further information
The sources will be read in Italian translation. Students who can't attend the lessons are requested to contact the teacher in order to arrange an alternate program
