Learning outcomes
The main goal of the course is learning of basic concepts of cytopathology.
Course contents
The Cytopathology is a branch of Biology which has for object the study of cellular alterations for diagnostic purposes. It uses many techniques of traditional , cytochemical, immunocytochemical, immunofluorescence staining, in situ hybridization and molecular tests.
The program of the course provides:
1-methods of fixation, staining and inclusion of different biological samples;
2-the observation with light microscope the preparations;
3-the learning of basic concepts in diagnostic cellular and tissue level .
The course will be completed with notions of exfoliative cytology which is the study of exfoliated cells spontaneously or mechanically removed.
Teaching methods
Frontal lectures and lab experiences.
Reccomended or required readings
1- Biologia- Cellula e Tessuti, Colombo-Olmo (edi-ermes)
2- Citopatologia diagnostica Trattato italiano di medicina di Laboratorio, Paolo Boccato (Piccin).
The slides of the lectures will be available in Kiro site.
Assessment methods
Assessment of student knowledge learning is conducted through a written test consisting of extensive questions aimed to verify the understanding of concepts, and of multiple-choise questions aimed to verify the knowledge of the subject.
