Learning outcomes
Basic knowledge of cartography, surveying methods on the terrain, basic use of GIS software, processing of primary data and extraction of second level information.
Course contents
Module 1:General concepts, Classification of cartographic representations and national cartography; Geographic data; Overview of Global Positioning System (GPS); Principles and concepts related to GIS-specific core technologies: components, processes, data model, topology, spatial analysis applied to raster data and vector data; The data model; Spatial and attribute-based analysis; Overview of the main GIS software (free / open source and commercial, mobile app); Data analysis (queries, selection and spatial analysis); Thematic maps (classifications, representations, thematizations); Production of elaborates.Module 2:Application of the knowledge learned in Module 1 to real data, both faunistic and floristic; Introduction to statistical analyzes of spatial data (eg habitat suitability models, species distribution models, home range)
Teaching methods
Theoretical lessons followed by practical applications. Tutorials on PC with dedicated software.

Assessment methods
The exam will be "written", ie a project must be carried out using the software used in class. In practice it will consist of a series of elaborations on raw data provided.
