Prerequisites
No special requirements are requested, although it is useful to know basic concepts, theories and methodological notions in general sociology
Learning outcomes
The course aims at three goals:
1) Providing sociological basic concepts to analyse cultural consumptions
2) Presenting a specific empirical case of cultural consumption - drwan from Bourdieu and Darbel's study on people's fruition of art museums - as an example of anlysis and interpration of cultural consumption modalities according to their social class positions,
3) Putting in practice, through the elaboration of a research project framework on a cultural consuption practice chosen by students, using notions, concepts and analytical modalities derived from the course contents.
At the and of the course, student should become familiar with sociological concepts, analytical modalities and methodological tools applied to cultural consumption phenomena and their practical use
Course contents
Accordingly to the course's goals teaching will be organised as follows:
1) The first part of the course will deal with the definition of cultural consumption as distint consumption practice from others;
2) The second part will be dedicated to present and discuss more extensively the Bourdieu and Darbel's research on the fruition of art museum;
3) A third part of lessons will be dedicated to the presentation of the guidelines for the research projects writing;
4) Finally in the last part of the course will be dedicated to the discussion and evalution of research projects presented, and, possibly, to hints and directions to modify and/or better the project presentes in order to overcome weakeness and criticalities
Teaching methods
Due to Covid-19 emergency, lessons will delivered at distance. Teacher will upload audio files of the lessons on google drive platform to which students accede through links provided on Kiro platform.
On Kiro students will find integrative didactic materials, the pdf file of the Bourdieu and Darbel's book, all the instructions and didrections related to research projects writing, a pariodical forum dedicated to students' questions about lessons and project and all the communications related to the course.

The book is provided as a pdf file downloadble from google drive platform through a link provided on Kiro platform.
The study of the book is for attending and non-attending students.
Assessment methods
Exam modalities are distinct for attending and non-attending students.
An attending student is who not only download audio lessons during the course, but above all, who present her/his research project bybthe date indicated by the teacher. The if the project is evaluated positevily a mark will be given and, if accepted by the student, it constitute the final evaluation of the exam.
Students who will not present their research projects by the indicated date will be considered non-attending students. Those students have to write their research project to be deivered to teacher for evaluation, at least a week before the exam date and then they can take the oral exam on Bourdieu and Darbel's book. Project and oral exam marks constitute the final evaluation
