Prerequisites
The course aims to provide basic elementsin the field of copyright and advertising. It is preferable for the student to have some of the first rudiments of civil law, even though the topics will be addressed in such a way that they can be learned from those who have no specific competences in the field of law.
Learning outcomes
The course is directed to students of IIIrd year at CIM. The course of copyright and advertising law introduces students to the relating discipline, explaining the historical development, the sources and the aims of the laws, also touching upon competition rules and with a view at describing the role of new media, internet and social network. At the end of the course, students will have gained adequate knowledge of the reference field, so that they can propose themselves as creators of works of art or as users, or as operators in the advertising industry. In addition to legal knowledge, some practical advice and guidance will be provided.
Course contents
Part 1 - Copyright Law - prof. Simona Lavagnini
The course starts with a general introduction to the systems for intellectual property rights protections, to describe the historical evolution of the systems, as well as relating social and juridical issues. We will then analyze, also using pratical examples as well as case law, the main topics of the course, from the subject matter of the copyright to the list of the protected works of art, the notion of creativity, the so called useful works, the owners of the rights, economic rights and moral rights.
Teaching methods
The course includes front lessons with the help of slides that will be available to students. The themes will also be addressed through recent case-law cases that are able to illustrate the most relevant issues of the matter in a problematic way, in the current context of reference.

Assessment methods
Oral examination. In the course of the exam, questions will be asked about the subject matter (both copyright and advertising) with the aim of verifying the acquired skills, and in particular the understanding of the main legal institutes (rights, subjects, exceptions), the acquisition of an adequate legal terminology, the ability to expose the concepts in an orderly and orderly manner also from the logical point of view.
