Course contents
Module 1 . Biochemistry II. Integration of metabolism: metabolic profile of liver, muscle, adipose tissue and brain. The diabetes. Ethanol metabolism. Xenobiotics metabolism: cytochrome P450. Mechanisms of conjugation. Biochemical role of glutathione. Bilirubin metabolism.
Cholesterol and biliary acids. Steroid hormones: synthesis and mechanism of action. Vitamin D. Metabolism of lipoproteins. Atherosclerosis. Haemostasis: coagulation, fibrinolysis, control mechanisms, role of endothelium and platelets. Biochemical mechanisms of inflammation and phagocyte function. Protein trafficking and secretion. Protein transport to nucleus, mitochondria and peroxisomes. Secretory pathway. Protein glycosilation. Protein transport to lisosomes: the role of mannose-6-phosphate. Mechanism of vesicular trafficking. Receptor-mediated endocytosis.
