Prerequisiti
Basic preparation in general sociology. Familiarity with the classics of economics and sociology.
Obiettivi formativi
The course provides students with a general overview of the relationships between economics and sociology, with an introduction to the classics of economic sociology and of the sociology of finance. More specifically, it should make students aware of the crucial roles of social institutions in economic actions and activities. At the end of the course students should be more sensible to the relevance of the context of economic actions, to the complexity of individual choices and of the relations linking the micro and macro levels.
Programma e contenuti
The course is divided in two main parts .In the first, we will examine and discuss the works and perspectives of the founding fathers of economic sociology, including Marx, Weber, Durkheim, Simmel, Schumpeter and Polanyi. Then, starting with a famous text by Mark Granovetter, we will focus on the tought of some of the most rapresentative authors in the new economic sociology and sociology of finance, to provide an overview of the contemporary developments in sociology about financial markets.
