Prerequisiti
A thorough knowledge of human physiology and the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics is required.
Obiettivi formativi
At the completion of the course, students must be able to:
a) describe and interpret therapeutic and adverse effects induced by medicines on organs and apparatuses;
b) assess the risk to benefit ratio of medicines used in the therapeutic setting;
e) select and utilise appropriately the medications used in the most critical pathological conditions.
Programma e contenuti
Prof. Andrea Ferrigno:
Hypoglycemic Drugs (Biguanides, Sulfonylureas, Meglitinides, Glitazones, Gliptins or DPP4 inhibitors, Glifozines, GLP-1 analogues, Insulin)
Combination Oral Contraceptives (estrogens and progestins) and drugs used in erectile dysfunction (PDE5 inhibitors)
Anticancer Drugs (molecular testing, anticancer polytherapy, rescue drugs, antinausea drugs, cytotoxic anticancer drugs, hormone therapy, targeted drugs)
Drugs affecting Coagulation (heparin and derivatives, Vitamin K antagonists, New Oral Anticoagulants, monitoring and antidotes)
Drugs used in Dyslipidemias (Statins, Inhibitors of cholesterol absorption, anti PCSK9 monoclonal antibodies, Bile acid sequestrants, Fibrates, Omega-3 fatty acids)
Drugs used in Hypertension ACE inhibitors, ARBs, Calcium channel blockers, thiazide diuretics, Direct renin inhibitors, Adrenergic blockers

major analgesics; NSAIDs antiepileptic drugs; GI drugs; Asthma treatment; ;drugs used for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
Metodi didattici
The course includes formal lectures. Faculty members are available at times reserved for student visits to provide clarifications about topics included in the course.

Modalità verifica apprendimento
The examination consists in an oral evaluation addressing the topics included in the programme. Oral or written in itinere evaluations may be conducted. Students must demonstrate that they achieved the learning objectives of the course.
