The aim of the course is to acquire the basic knowledge to carry out a bibliographical research in the scientific literature available on PubMed, providing the necessary tools to conduct a functional bibliographic research for the preparation of a thesis, a report, a scientific article. At the end of the course the student will know the main tools to build up-to-date and complete bibliographies for the preparation of his/her thesis and will be able to query these tools in simple and complex ways.

Building an introductory and updated bibliography on a thesis topic:
Research of the supporting literature: the services of the University of Pavia
From topics to research strings:
- sources: magazines, databases, sites,
- The methods for an effective search: construction of the string, boolean operators and PICO
Databases (Pubmed) and search engines (Google Scholar)

Lectures and active participation of students in the application of bibliographic research strategies.

The final exam consists in the preparation of a short report where the student will implement a research string in Pubmed based on a defined research hypothesis and will present the list of bibliographic references obtained by the research
