Ophthalmology - the student must:


1) to acquire notions of anatomy and physiology of the ocular adnexa, the ocular apparatus and the visual pathways.
2) know the refractive characteristics of the eyeball and the related refractive anomalies.
3) know the most important eye diseases of developmental age including abnormalities of ocular motility and binocular vision with particular regard to amblyopia.
4) learn and know the use of the main instrumental diagnostic methods dedicated to the morphological and functional study of the ocular apparatus.
5) know the static, dynamic inflammatory and neoplastic pathologies of the eyelids and conjunctival apparatus and appendages.
6) to know all the pathologies of ocular hydrodynamics with particular regard glaucoma and all its main clinical manifestations and to know the basic principles of surgical and pharmacological treatment.
7) to know the pathologies of the anterior segment of the eye and their treatment with particular regard to inflammatory, degenerative and traumatic diseases of the sclera, cornea, iris diaphragm, corneal iris and lens pathologies.
8) to learn pathologies and treatment of the anomalies of the posterior segment with particular regard to the alterations of the central and peripheral retina, of the choroid, of the optic disc and of the optic nerve in relation to vascular, degenerative, neoplastic and traumatic pathologies.
9) to know the main pathologies of neuro-ophthalmological interest with particular regard to the retinal cortical visual pathways and the innervation system of oculomotion

The I.C. of Sense Systems Diseases provides for an oral exam.

For this purpose, the Course has been divided into three distinct modules:

module A: Otolaryngology and Audiology;

module B: Ophthalmology;

module C: Odontostomatology and Maxillofacial Surgery.



The candidate must take an oral exam for each individual subject of each module.

The final judgment is given by the arithmetic mean of the oral tests, with rounding up or down.

The individual modules can be faced up simultaneously or split at individual will; however, they must be completed within two adjacent sessions. Generally, the schedule of the exams includes 3 sessions: I session (with 3 sessions: January, February and April), II session (with 2 sessions: June and July), III session (with 2 sessions: September and December) .

For module A and module C, the location of the exams is represented by the room of the Otolaryngology Clinic; for module B, the Ophthalmology Clinic Room.

Based on the number of enrolled students, the sessions of each exam include the evaluation of about 60 students.

The criteria that inspire the dates of the sessions of the individual modules are those of a certain temporal proximity, avoiding however the overlap in order to allow the possible passing of all three tests in a single session.

If the candidate does not pass the test, it is at the discretion of the teacher to allow the repetition in a possible subsequent appeal of the same session.
