Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of normal human anatomy, physiology, general pathology, surgical semiotics.
Learning outcomes
a) Provide the anatomical-surgical, anatomical-pathological and pathophysiological elements necessary for the understanding of the main surgical pathologies of gastroenterological pertinence;
b) Provide the cultural tools to build the diagnostic and diagnostic-differential paths of the main surgical pathologies of gastroenterological pertinence;
c) Illustrate the rationale and technical bases for the curative or palliative surgical treatment of the main gastroenterological pathologies.
Course contents
- Semeiology and physical examination in diseases of the digestive system.
- Acute and chronic abdominal pain (pathophysiological, semiological and clinical approach).
- Surgical acute abdomen (peritonitic, occlusive, vascular).
- Acute appendicitis.
- Acute pseudoabdomen (medical).
- Abdominal parietal hernias. The hernia strangulation.
- Congenital and acquired diaphragmatic hernias.
- The megaesophagus. The esophageal diverticula.
- Benign and malignant tumors of the esophagus.
- Benign and malignant tumors of the stomach. Gastric precancerosis.
- Inflammatory and tumoral pathology of the small mesentery.
- Chronic inflammatory bowel disease (rectum - ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease).
- Intestinal precancerosis. Intestinal polyps. Polyposis.
- Diverticulosis of the colon.
- Megacolon (congenital, acquired, toxic).
- Colorectal cancer.
- Acute and chronic inflammatory pathology of the pancreas.
- Benign and malignant tumors of the pancreas.
- APUDome. Carcinoids. Multiple endocrine adenomatoses of surgical relevance. Paraneoplastic endocrine syndromes.
- Surgical splenopathies.
- Benign and malignant tumors of the liver (focal liver lesions).
- The cirrhotic patient candidate for surgery.
- Surgical jaundice. General framework and etiopathogenetic aspects.
- Inflammatory pathology of the bile ducts.
- Malformations and tumors of the biliary tract.
- Gallstone disease.
- Portal hypertension.
- Diseases of the anus of surgical interest (fissure, abscess, fistula, haemorrhoidal varices, cancer).
- Abdominal masses (intraperitoneal, retroperitoneal).
- Stem cells and surgery.
- Organ transplants.
