Good knowledge of Biology and Basic Genetics, particularly in relation to the chemical and physical nature of the genetic material, to its expression and its change.
Learning outcomes
to reach a competence of the basic terms of Genetics in relation to the concepts associated with them; to understand the modality of transmission of mendelian characters and pathologies by family trees; to develop the ability to explain crossings by genotypes and to calculate the risk of recurrence; to know the role of Medical Genetics in its application to clinical practice.
Course contents
Introduction to the course: the vocabulary of Genetics
Genes, genomes and genetic variability
Genetic diseases and their classification
Transmission of monogenic traits
How to study the transmission of characters by family trees
Examples of monogenic diseases
Inheritance models: from the analysis of family trees to the assignment of genotypes to the calculation of recurrence risk
