The course provides the knowledge of the material aspects of the ancient book with particular attention to the manuscript book in code form. At the end of the course students are able to write a cataloguing description of the manuscript with reference to its main material and textual aspects.
Course contents
Introduction to codicology: history of the Medieaval manuscript.
Some lessons on the manuscript description will be conducted at the the Public Library of Cremona. Lessons in the library will be scheduled from November. Students unable to attend lessons are required to agree with the teacher an alternative program at the beginning of the Academic year and in any case not later than mid-October.
Teaching methods
Lectures and educational visits at the Public Library of Cremona. Lessons in the library are the most extensive and important part of the program, as the main objective of the course is to teach students to describe a manuscript book. Considering the pratical content of the course, attendance is strongly recommended.
