Prerequisites
The course does not provide basic notions of Earth Sciences that are understood to be known. However, the course is built to also be suitable for students of other degree programs in Science
Learning outcomes
The course aims to illustrate methods and strategies for teaching Earth Sciences in secondary schools of I and II degree. Through the inquiry method, students learn how to build a teaching style that is inclusive and of good quality in accordance with the goal #4 of the UN Agenda 2030.
The course also develops important complementary skills such as: the ability to speak in public; the ability to identify the best of communication; problem solving by combining characteristic methods and intellectual tools.
Course contents
The teaching is divided into 2 segments.
Segment 1 (3CFU, teacher Alessia Cicconi)
1) European Union and MIUR documents concerning science education and their transposition in Italy; 2) epistemology, science education and introduction of the most significant contributions by scientists and intellectuals who have questioned the best way to teach science; 3) the different methodological approaches to science teaching such as the IBSE (Inquiry Based Science Education) and teaching skills (Laboratories and laboratory teaching) with reference also to compensatory tools and dispensative measures to which students with learning (DSA) are entitled.
Segment 2 (3 CFU, teacher Claudia Lupi)
1) Use of portals to support teaching; 2) practical examples of collaborative learning, upside-down teaching with the development of short teaching units; 3) educational outings both on the ground and in research and dissemination organizations to learn laboratory teaching methods; 4) quality and inclusive teaching for the full achievement of goal #4 of the UN Agenda 2030.
Teaching methods
Emphasis is given to techniques useful for stimulating students' learning through frontal lessons and laboratory activities as well as the preparation and discussion in class of teaching units and lab activities.

Assessment methods
The assessment of the student's learning will be conducted through the presentation of a teaching unit or a lab experience assigned. The student will present the activity and the the class involved, moreover, during the interview the use of methods and strategies shown in class will be verified.
