Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in dental materials, dental hygiene, periodontology, various prosthetic rehabilitations and their characteristics.
Basic knowledge of oral ecology and microbiology. Basic knowledge of the implant-supported prosthesis and its indications and contraindications, on components and implant-prosthetic solutions, on the main types of implant-prosthesis connection. Biological concepts and microbiology of soft perimplant tissues. Knowledge about similarities and periodontal differences in the natural tooth and implant. Basic concepts on oral hygiene preparation, oral hygiene motivation, and hygienic-nutritional counseling in the candidate patient for implant prosthesis rehabilitation.
Learning outcomes
The student should learn the main types of fixed prosthesis on natural teeth, of systems of implant and their prosthetic components, he should know the most important factors related to the patient that improve the prognosis of the dental and implant prosthesis, he should learn and know the anatomical differences between the tissues around the teeth and dental implants. At the end of course the student will have a knowledge that allows him to recognize, diagnose and deal with simple cases of maintenance of the dental and implant-supported prosthesis. For everything else see italian version.
Course contents
Definition, classification and purpose of fixed prostheses on natural dentition and implant prosthodontics. Components of implant-supported prostheses. Recognize and use appropriately the main tools used for the cleaning and maintaining fixed prostheses and implant prosthodontics- plan the maintenance of fixed prostheses and implants. For everything else see italian version.
Teaching methods
The course is organized in frontal lectures through on-screen presentations and insights on the blackboard. The approach used is 'problem solving' with interactive discussion aimed at understanding experimental data and the clinical application of scientific evidence and the theoretical concepts presented.
