Learning outcomes
To know the fundamental of pulmonary function, to define the main respiratory diseases and their diagnostic criteria and to know therapy
Course contents
The aim of this course is to provide a scientific basis for the practice of, and research into, respiratory medicine. It will allow students to understand the molecular, cellular and pathophysiological processes of a range of pulmonary diseases and provides the base for thoracic surgery treatment. At the end of the course, students should be able: to perform a clinical examination of a patient with a suspected respiratory illness; to know what are the commonest tools supporting clinical examinations and their diagnostic implications. They should know for each disease: definition, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical and instrumental diagnostic tools, natural history, complications, therapy, management of the emergency, management of respiratory failure, indications for thoracic surgery, and management of patients with lung transplant.
