Prerequisites
Acquisition of at least 6 ECTS of Italian Linguistics in the previous three-year degree.
Learning outcomes
Deepen the knowledge of some linguistic traits of the Italian of past centuries, with particular attention to textual aspects.
At the end of the course, students will be able to analyze the textual structures in their diachronic variation and to distinguish and properly evaluate the typical features of the epistolary textual tradition.
Course contents
The epistolary grammar through the centuries.

The course will be divided into two parts:
1. The epistolary grammar (12 hours)
2. Linguistic analysis of a diachronic epistolary corpus (24 hours)
Teaching methods
Lectures (with the aid of multimedia materials) complemented by seminars.

3. All the materials and texts commented during the lessons.

For non-attending students, point 3 is replaced by the essay Fabio Magro, Lettere familiari, in Giuseppe Antonelli, Matteo Motolese e Lorenzo Tomasin (a cura di), Storia dell’italiano scritto, 3 voll., vol. III: Italiano dell'uso, Roma, Carocci, 2014, pp. 101-57.
Assessment methods
Oral examination supplemented by discussion of a thesis previously agreed with the teacher.
