Knowledge of the English language.
It is appropriate to have passed the examination of pathological anatomy.
Knowledge of the principles of preventative medicine.
Clinical reasoning capacity.
To acquire the knowledge of occupational medicine needed for medical practice, in its preventive, clinical, and medical-legal aspects.
In particular, the course aims to teach how to collect the occupational history and to recognize the most common clinical pictures of occupational injury or disease.
General concepts: definition and aims of the discipline; occupational risks and hazards; accident at work, occupational disease, work-related disease; occupational anamnesis; industrial hygiene (technical prevention and environmental monitoring): sanitary survelillance, biomonitoring and biomarkers; medical legal issues.
Physical agents: microclimate and thermal factors; baropathies; noise; vibration; electricity; radiation (ionizing and non ionizing); Work-related Musculo-Skeletal Disorders (WMSDs).
Occupational toxicology: toxic gases (carbon monoxide, cyanides, arsine); metals (lead, mercury, chromium, cadmium); solvents (general concepts, n-hexane, benzene, carbon disulfide); pesticides (general concepts, organophosphates); dusts and fibres (pneumoconioses).
Occupational allergology: diagnostics (prick test, patch test, RAST, bronchoprovocation testing); main diseases (dermopathies, rhinitis, bronchial asthma, extrinsic allergic alveolitis).
Biological risk: general concepts; blood-borne pathogens; air-borne pathogens; zoonoses.
Occupational cancer: general concepts; malignant mesothelioma.
Work-related stress: general concepts; stress-related psychopathological disorders; burn-out; mobbing.
Interactive frontal lessons with presentation of clinical cases.
Critical reading of scientific articles.
Practical training with outpatients, individual or in small groups.
Computer use of didactic material, prepared by the teachers.
