The aims of the course are to prepare 5th-year students to a broad understanding of the most common infectious diseases and their clinical management, covering viral, bacterial and parasitic diseases. Global epidemiology of the major infectious diseases and public health implications will also be covered.

At the end of the course, students should be able to recognize the typical clinical presentations of major infectious diseases (see below) and to develop a basic knowledge of the main treatment regimens.

Viral Hepatitis: HAV, HBV, HCV, HDV, HEV

Parasitic and Invasive Fungal Infections: Leishmaniasis, Strongyloidosis, Schistosomiasis, Filariasis, Candidiasis, Aspergillosis

The Febrile Patient: Temperature Regulation, Definition of Fuo, Causes of Fuo. Laboratory Studies in Fuo. Treatment of Fever

Gastrointestinal Infections: Escherichia Coli, Shigella, Campylobacter, Entamoeba histolytica, Salmonella, Schistosoma, Vibrio Infections
