Classroom attendance and the completion of all assignments are of the utmost importance. A minimum of 75% attendance is required.
The course aims to further develop the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills required to communicate effectively in medical English, including to inquire, explain, prompt, rephrase, instruct, advise, recommend, investigate, interpret and discuss, as well as to research, summarize, record, and present pertinent medical information.
The course further introduces the student to relevant medical English vocabulary, usage and functional language, elements of style and register found in medical texts. The course expands upon the material presented in the first-year course covering the main stages of medical communication from the initial case-taking to medical examination, investigation, and diagnosis, plus medical and surgical treatment.
The classroom lessons are a mixture of lecture and discussion and are taught in English by native English speakers. Online resources will be used to enhance instruction.
Course book: Textbooks and other course materials will be announced in the classroom the first day of lessons.

The course examination, at the end of the 2nd semester, is a written test worth 4 CFU. It is designed to evaluate the student’s comprehension of the material presented during the lessons. Students have to score 60 per cent (18/30) or higher to receive the passing mark of ‘idoneo’. There are no exemptions from taking the written examination.

The material presented during the lessons complements the subject matter of the Department of Medicine and Surgery. Consequently, no credit will be awarded for the completion of a similar course at another Department or institution nor for the holding of any certificate of Enhttps://www.unipv.u-gov.it/u-gov-di/img/leggitutto.gifglish language competency.
